More Things I’ve Learned

  • Social networking is more about “me” than it is about “us”
  • The line between thoughts and complaints seems to be diminishing
  • We’re too busy comparing ourselves to others to accurately evaluate ourselves
  • God is an excuse not to do “bad” things and YOLO is a reason to and somehow they balance each other out
  • We constrain our freedom by wanting to be as free as everyone else
  • Waving three feet away from someone because you don’t know them that well is just as awkward as hugging someone you’ve never met
  • If you have even one friend then you’re already cool to someone else
  • If you don’t have any friends then you’re too cool for them anyways
  • The one’s with the most end up isolating themselves
  • Expecting politeness like a thank you after opening a door takes away from selflessly doing a favor altogether
  • There’s a greater chance that a high school student knows who Snooki is before knowing who the Dalai Lama is
  • Hashtaging “life” is stupid
  • Your phone brings those far closer and pushes those close further
  • The world revolves around you, so your world is only as good as your interactions with others

Anonymous asked: do you know karate?

No, that’s just my body kicking

bonjourtess asked: I want, at some point, to tell you about the phone call I received last night. Your post about missing people reminded me- it is very specific to my situation, but I think relevant to life. Also, did you cop that Dizzy Wright "Smokeout Conversations"? that shit goes haaaard.

Let me know doggy I live down the hall! Give me it!

Memories

How easy is it to forget people? When do people stop becoming friends and start becoming memories? More often than not we get hostile when thinking about old friends saying “Why do I have to make the effort? Why can’t they?” when in actuality it means they’ve forgotten about me and now I’m going to do the same. It’s crazy that we can have over 800 “friends” on Facebook and still struggle to keep up with weekly updates on just a handful people. We can spend all day on the phone or social networking sites and forget that the purpose of these things is to connect us to people we miss or can’t see everyday. Maybe it’s the need to be right. Maybe it’s the whole mentality that we were able to do just fine without certain people, but what’s the point of that? Does that earn us some sort of brownie points that we can tally up? “CONGRATULATIONS! You were successfully able to stop yourself from talking to someone you missed!” I don’t know what it is, but I sure do miss some people sometimes, but hey rather reminisce than make the effort right?

Tell me these guys don’t do work and I’ll tell you to stop lying

"…But when it comes to human beings, the only type of cause that matters is final cause, the purpose. What a person had in mind. Once you understand what people really want, you can’t hate them anymore. You can fear them, but you can’t hate them, because you can always find the same desires in your own heart."
